Collegiate's Under 16 rugby team were forced to endure heartbreak and confusion after their National Cup Final against Ipswich School ended in a 20-20 draw.
With the clock ticking down, and Collegiate holding on to a 20-15 lead, Ipswich scored a try under the posts and were seemingly set for the win, only for the conversion to come crashing back off the bar.
A minute of injury time later, the referee brought proceedings to a close whilst the coaches and travelling support of both teams awaited the final outcome, as extra-time is not permitted in junior rugby.
After what seemed like an eternity, Collegiate were declared the victors, and delighted celebrations understandably followed.
Half an hour of hugs, photographs and joy later, and with Ipswich just about to be presented with their runners-up medals, the organisers brought the coaches together to explain there had been a mathematical error by the organisers and that it was, in fact, Ipswich who were the winners, due to number of tries scored.
A deflating ending to a memorable day, and our boys presented themselves in impeccable fashion throughout, despite the unfortunate events.
Well done to all involved for a fabulous Collegiate campaign, which ended in a National Final place for the second time in three years for a superb group of boys, and thanks to Ipswich School for a brilliant final.
